I love how the texures and depths of layered paint reveal glimpses of different colors and underlying movement that changes with every view. There is always something new to discover in a layered painting for the painter and the viewer. The slightest shift in the direction of the brush, roller or sponge impacts the viewer in a tactile way - just as it impacts the layers of paint on, beneath and around it. Most of my layered paintings are created while listening to music and inevitably the strokes and shapes begin to take on its rhythm. In some cases, the painting is so tied to the music I heard while making it, I've written the musicial artist or songs on the back. In my Layered Series, I worked to tell stories and evoke emotional responses through the shapes and textures.
